Tire buying guide
Whether you are shopping for a budget used set or a full new install, these steps help partner shops quote faster and keep you safe on the road.
Read your tire size
Check the driver door placard. Example 225/65R17: 225 mm width, 65% sidewall height, 17-inch wheel. Load index and speed rating matter for SUVs and trucks.
Used vs new
Matched used sets can save money when tread depth and DOT age are documented. New tires carry full manufacturer warranty. Ask for tread photos and the week/year stamped on the sidewall before you drive to a shop.
Patch vs replace
Shoulder punctures and sidewall bubbles usually need a new tire. Small center-tread injuries may be repairable. Do not drive on a flat — send a photo first.
Two tires or four?
AWD and some stability systems need matched tread depth across an axle or all four corners. Tell the shop if you only need two so they can check whether a pair is safe for your vehicle.
